How Can Hypnotherapy Help With Menopause?

I’m glad that menopause is being talked about so much at the moment. At last there’s some great advice out there about menopause, what to expect, and how to tackle menopause symptoms. In this post, I’m looking at how hypnotherapy can help alleviate symptoms as well as support you into the next exciting chapter of your life.

What is menopause?
All women will experience menopause. Simply put menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels. Peri-menopause happens in the years leading up to that. Menopause usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55. It can sometimes happen earlier naturally or for reasons such as surgery, cancer treatments or a genetic reason. Sometimes the reason is unknown.

What impact can menopause have?
It sounds simple but I’ve read that there are an estimated 62 different menopause symptoms! The symptoms are wide-ranging and affect mental as well as physical health. It can be difficult to know what’s down to menopause and what isn’t. Some common symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause are listed below.

Not surprisingly menopause can have a big impact on daily life, including relationships, social life, family life, and work. It can feel different for everyone. You may have several symptoms or none. Symptoms can last for months or years and can change with time. Due to past reluctance to talk about menopause many women are unprepared for what they are going through.

In addition, menopause can also coincide with major life changes such as children leaving home, caring for elderly parents, retirement, or ill health. At a time of such upheaval, it’s not surprising menopause can seriously affect women’s physical and mental well-being and quality of life.

How can hypnotherapy help with menopause?
Hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxing, natural therapy that works with the unconscious mind to positively change thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. It utilises the mind-body connection to bring relief, change perception, and re-frame thinking as well as teaching tools to manage symptoms on an ongoing basis.

This time of life isn’t called ‘the change’ for nothing and it can be an opportunity to evaluate what it is you want to happen next. It can help give you clarity, set goals and motivate you to achieve them so that you can move ahead with the next phase of your life feeling confident and energised. I think Oprah puts it perfectly:

  • You’re not alone – there are millions of women going through the same thing right now and more and more are speaking out about it. Seek out help if you need it.

  • This time of life can also be an opportunity.
